A delegation from Imec, led by its CEO Luc Van den hove, visited Málaga in recent days to witness firsthand the progress of the project for its upcoming research center, which will be located at Málaga Tech Park.
The delegation was composed of top executives from the organization, including Jo De Boeck, Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy Officer (CSO) & General Manager of Imec the Netherlands; Katrien Marent, Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMO); Max Mirgoli, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Strategic Partnerships; Christoph Luykx, Head of Government Relations Europe; Karel van Gils, R&D Fab Director; and Helio Fernandez, Program Manager at imec.IC-link.
The visit began on Monday with a meeting at the Rectorate of the University of Málaga, where the delegation met with representatives from the University and Fundación Innova IRV. During the meeting, they were presented with the main areas of activity both institutions are driving in the field of microelectronics, as well as efforts in developing specialized talent in collaboration with other Andalusian and Spanish universities.
Participants in the meeting included Felipe Romera, Director of Málaga TechPark; Enrique Márquez, Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer, Business, and Digital Transformation; and Oscar Chabrera, CFO and CEO of Innova IRV Microelectronics.
On the second day, following Luc Van den hove’s participation in the international Global Photonic Economic Forum—also taking place in Málaga—the delegation visited the land where their new research center will be built within Málaga TechPark. They were accompanied by Carolina España, Regional Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Funds; Felipe Romera; María Marced, President of TSMC Europe; Carlos García, Regional Delegate for Economy, Finance, European Funds, Industry Policy, and Energy for the Andalusian Government in Málaga; Ezequiel Navarro, President of Fundación Innova IRV; and Mario Nemirovsky, CSO & CTO of Innova IRV.
It was announced last January that Málaga would host this new center, which will become Imec’s second in Europe, following its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. Imec is a global leader in semiconductor research and development, with 5,000 researchers from 95 countries and 600 industrial partners.
