Innova IRV Closes First Half of the Year Strengthening Its Position in Microelectronics and Advancing New Strategic Projects

  • Innova IRV concluded the first half of the year by reinforcing its position in the field of microelectronics and launching new strategic projects

The Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation Foundation (Innova IRV) gathered its Board of Trustees at the Rectorate of the University of Málaga in a session attended by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, the Foundation’s President, Ezequiel Navarro, along with other authorities, trustees, and collaborators.

During the meeting, the Foundation presented its activity report for the first half of the year, a period marked by the consolidation of the microelectronics division, thanks to the advancement of strategic initiatives such as the Andalusian Microelectronics Strategy and the development of a Microelectronics Cluster, which is expected to be operational before the end of the year.

In addition, the Foundation reported on more than thirty ongoing projects in key areas, including cybersecurity, defense, security and emergency response, circular economy, and Industry 4.0, among others.

Particularly noteworthy is the progress made in the Defense division, which was added to the Foundation’s portfolio in December. It has already launched a collaborative initiative with the Andalusian Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mines focused on four challenges related to dual-use technologies.

“We are very proud of the work done during this first semester. The Foundation has demonstrated its ability to lead strategic initiatives in microelectronics, dual-use technologies, and industrial innovation,” said Foundation President Ezequiel Navarro.

Leadership changes

During the board meeting, changes in the technical management of Innova IRV were also announced. Mario Nemirovsky, who had held this position, has decided to pursue new professional opportunities after three years of valuable collaboration. He will, however, maintain a relationship with the Foundation as an expert and advisor.

“We deeply appreciate his leadership and key contributions, which have been fundamental to the development and consolidation of strategic projects such as the arrival of IMEC in Málaga and the creation of the first microelectronics startup promoted by the Foundation. We wish him the greatest success in this new chapter and look forward to continuing to collaborate on future projects,” said Ezequiel Navarro.

A growing ecosystem: New alliances and projects underway

Over this period, the Foundation has undertaken an intensive institutional agenda, encompassing more than 40 key actions. Highlights include participation in major international forums such as IMEC’s ITF in Antwerp, MWC Barcelona, and FEINDEF, among others, as well as joining new national and international networks like AENEAS, Fundación Círculo, and Gaia-X.

During this semester, the Foundation has helped reinforce the role of Málaga and Andalusia on the international microelectronics map, while also leading projects under funding programs such as Chips JU and INNTERCONECTA – STEP.

In parallel, new projects have been launched in other strategic areas, positioning the Foundation as a key player in driving public and private industrial transformation strategies, with a strong focus on technological sovereignty, strategic autonomy, and innovation as a driving force for development.
